‘Woman‘, the very word itself comes with a long list of fitting adjectives that truly define a woman. They are not only homemakers but they rule the world too. Digging back into history would give us a fair idea about what women can do or have done, for that matter. They are not only dreamers and achievers but fighters who can even stand alone for their cause when called upon to do so. Although we’ve had a lot of women who have become immortal in the pages of history, we still have to shout out to prove to the world that we deserve to be treated equally. Hasn’t the world seen enough women who have proved they are at par with men in every field? If yes, then why do we still have gender discrimination and all sorts of violence against women?
With each passing year, the condition of women is getting worse, especially in our country. It is quite shameful that a country which worships the female form fails to respect women. Who is supposed to blame for it? society? men? Or maybe women? It is of course a social construct that women are inferior to men, but with each passing day, this social construct has begun to get a firmer hold on our society.
The society and certain men are definitely guilty of mistreating women and leaving them feel inferior. But it is partly our fault too. The society is holding us back simply because we are letting it do so. We have lost that ‘spark’ inside us- the desire to achieve something, to fight for our rights. Now, fighting for our rights doesn’t mean going on hunger strikes, taking out rallies, protests or fighting for reservations. In fact, this whole ‘reservation’ thing is quite ironic. We talk about gender equality and then go on saying that women should be given reservations in jobs and central services. But the big question is, why do we want reservations if we consider ourselves as able as the opposite sex? That’s one question to be pondered upon.
Ladies, it’s time to wake up from the world of fantasies, to do something, to show the world that we still possess the ‘spark’ within us. It is time to break all barriers; those chains of restrictions to follow your dreams, to find ourselves a place in this big world, to make a difference. Not forgetting, we should always be the change that we wish to see in the world. Be hardworking, dedicated, dream big, shoot for your goal. Be a woman of substance!
